Auckland's weather had the final say when the scheduled opening game of the National Bank New Zealand-Pakistan One-Day International series was postponed until tomorrow's reserve day.

Wet weather since early this morning put paid to any hope of play. Conditions were very humid with no breeze to blow away the rain and while the final cut-off time for the day could have been 6pm, it was decided at 2.30pm to call play off for the day.

Even if the wind had blown up and the skies cleared there would have been a minimum of two hours to get the ground ready for the match.

There was a lot of water on the ground covers while the outfield was very soft under foot.

Today's game was to have been a day-night match but tomorrow's game will start at 10.30am as local bylaws do not allow day-night matches to be played on a Sunday.

The game is the first test of a new marketing policy employed by New Zealand Cricket, which has been struggling to draw crowds to the cricket this year as a result of the CLEAR Black Caps poor home record.

Tickets were offered at substantially reduced prices over a 48-hour period.
